The
EcoContribution website is the work of Jacques Lalonde,
a Montrealer who was looking for a way to get involved
in environmental protection. Not satisfied with just
doing his share and watching our planet deteriorate
more and more, he decided in the Spring of 2005 to get
involved in a cause; supporting Bill 390 with an information
campaign and a petition. This bill aims to reduce the
quantity of plastic bags in Quebec.
This first campaign is a resounding success. Citizens
reacted with enthusiasm; 120,000 signatures in one year,
of which 15,000 paper signatures collected with the
support of over 150 volunteers. Reusable bags have since
appeared throughout Quebec and are here to stay.
Filliped by this success story, Jacques decided in
the Spring of 2006 to launch a second campaign. This
is an ambitious project, which will be taken from one
end of Canada to the other. The tropical shrimp fishery
is responsible for one third of all bycatch in the world's
oceans. It is by far the single greatest danger to the
oceans' biodiversity and a fishing activity which endangers
a large number of marine species. Furthermore, it jeopardizes
the fish stocks which could one day feed the planet.
Jacques Lalonde is a free-lance translator. His professional
activities allow him the freedom of a flexible schedule
and to put aside a few hours each day for his information
campaigns; phone calls, e-mails, contacts with the media,
research, web development, etc.
All these activities are self-financed, and he receives
no salary for his work protecting the environment. This
enables him to remain totally independent. EcoContribution
does not represent any private company, industry, association
or political party. Our only goal is to help the environment.
Please do not hesitate to contact me. I answer all
e-mails and phone calls.
Thank you for visiting this website and taking a stand
for the protection of the environment.
